Art has always surrounded me. My parents were both very creative – we were always ‘making things’ from whatever we had laying about. My mother did stained glass, fabric art and other projects. My father did abstract art in the 70’s, metal work and woodwork.
I was intimidated by art while going through school, they were always other kids that seemed so talented and so much better. The teachers praised and rewarded the students who created art that was more like a photograph or exact representation of what the object looked like, there was no discussion of abstract impressionism. I took an art class in high school and a few in college and I always dabbled in it but I felt my art wasn’t good enough – it wasn’t realism. Even though I felt that way, I would come back to it sporadically and try again. But it never felt ‘right’ it was like I was fighting with the paint in the canvas trying to create a duplicate of what I was looking at. So I would set it aside again.
During the COVID-19 when there was nothing to do, nowhere to go and no one that I could see, I reached back to my art. A friend had recently purchased a painting that was done with a palette knife and I loved it and I thought I wanted to try it. I purchased a palette knife set at a local store, got out some old, rather dry paints and tried it, I immediately fell in love with it - this is what I’ve been missing all these years. I love the impressionistic style how you can create a painting and depending on how you look at it it looks differently and the people when they look at it they see something else.
In the past few years, my art has flourished. I have been represented in 3 different galleries, set up an online page and sold to many different collectors.
I hope you can see the joy in the paintings and enjoy owning them as much as I enjoyed creating them.
